The Anchor And Journey 11x14
Hebrews 6:19a says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” The figurative meaning of the word anchor means, to keep hold or be firmly fixed in any way. For ships it is a device that is used for securing a vessel to the ground under water by a cable or rope. The anchor symbolically has long been tied to safety and stability. This verse is referring to the hope and surety of God’s promises in His word. When we are not anchored to the Lord, we can drift with the currents and waves of the sea, like a boat. To be anchored to the Lord means to be firmly grounded in the word of God, being unmovable and steadfast. The verse I chose for this piece is Psalm 119:49,50 “Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” It’s important to have these promises because they remind us of His faithfulness in our life. No one goes through this journey of life unscathed. We all go through rough waters and sometimes storms, but the key word is “through”, we don’t stay there. Jesus (Yeshua) is in the boat with us offering help and peace. I found this quote from Corrie ten Boom, who in her lifetime experienced great storms, “In order to realize the worth of the anchor we need to feel the stress of the storm.” Be encouraged and strengthened!
