Know Before Whom You Come

I was inspired by the hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy”, written by Reginald Heber and published in 1861. The lyrics were inspired by verses from the book of Revelation. They express worship and adoration for the Triune God. Moved by the words of this hymn I said to the Lord, “How do I depict Your holiness?” As I was sensing God was stirring a new piece, He wanted me to create with Him. It unfolded beautifully even with some challenges.

There is something sacred and powerful as we recognize Who we come before when we gather as believers. He is not just a concept, not just a distant deity. He is the holy, sovereign, all-powerful God who created the heavens and the earth. He is the One who holds all things together by His word, Hebrews 1:3.

When we enter into worship, whether in a quiet moment alone or together with fellow believers from different nations, we are stepping into the presence of the King of Kings. This sweet fellowship is accomplished through the finished work of Christ on the cross, as scene by the red background of the honeycomb skin tones. Unified and gathered as one, we set aside our distractions, lift up one voice, and one heart, to honor the Lord. In those moments, heaven touches earth, walls come down, and hearts are softened. God's presence is felt in ways that can’t be explained—only experienced.

Psalm 29:2 says, “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.”

This piece includes, “Holy to the Lord”(above my name), pronounced “kodesh l’Adonia” or “kodesh l’YHWH”. In ancient Israel, this exact phrase was an inscribed on a gold plate that was worn on the forehead of the high priest as part of his attire. It was a symbol of his dedication to God’s service. We are holy and  set apart for a sacred purpose to the Lord. Our service, worship, and our life are meant to bring glory to His Name.

This is our joy and our call—not to go through the motions, but to encounter the living God together.

May we never lose our awe. May we never forget the privilege we have to gather and worship Him in spirit and in truth.
