Hebrew Letter Ayin

Eye #5869 ayin עַיִן

The letter represents the ideas of seeing, observing and watching.  This world of sight however is a gateway to reach an eternal spiritual form of sight.  A person has two eyes, one to see the greatness of the Creator and creation and the other to see himself.

Luke 11:34 says, “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.”  Our eyes reflect our physical and psychological health.  One can condition themselves to see the positive or negative side to every situation. The eye needs light to see and has the choice of how it is used. Rashi (Medieval bible commentator)  said, “The heart and the eyes are the spies of the body: they lead a person to transgress; the eye sees, the heart covets, and the body transgresses” (Bamidbar 15.39).

God’s intimate knowledge of our lives are seen throughout the bible.  Prov.15:13 says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” (See 1Sam.16:7/ 2Chron.16:9).

The Messiah opens blind eyes physically Matt. 9:27-30 /15:30,31 / 20:29-34 / John 9 and spiritually Is.42:7,16 /43:8 / Acts 9:1-19 / Matt. 13:14,16,17.
